The Lord’s Café – Scones, Tea And More On A Budget
Despite being around for so many years, The Lord’s Café still gets a lot of visitors. They come for the daily scones but also the affordable prices.
Just how affordable is it to dine here?
We’ll show you in this post!
What Can You Get Here?
The menu is quite brief but sufficient if you’re here for breakfast, brunch, or tea.
Besides the scones and apple pies they have for sale on the counter, you can get cheesecake or hot food like hash browns or chicken pie.
We’ve only tried the scones and apple pies here so far and like that both are not sweet. They will heat up both if you choose to dine-in.
The scones have an appealing crumbly texture and are served with whipped cream, butter, and homemade strawberry jam.
Their beverage selection is surprising with things like strawberry milkshake or mango milkshake. The latter is totally worth ordering, by the way.
They have freshly squeezed juice if you want too.
Coffee and tea are nothing special but will do the job if you need a caffeine pick me up.
For caffeinated lattes, we would recommend heading to Cado Café or The Hidden Lab instead if you’re specifically want specialty brews.
How Much Will It Cost?
When so many other places charge higher for scones, it’s shocking that you can get a decent scone (medium sized) with homemade jam, butter, and cream (albeit the commercial sort) for less than RM5.
Their drinks (especially the ones with fresh fruit) are very cheap (some under RM10) considering what other cafes charge.
What Does This Place Look Like?
Stairs are the only way to enter The Lords Café. They do have a large menu beside the stairs, and some plants and a small signboard.
Toilets and the wash basin are right by the top of the stairs, and after shortly after, you’ll find yourself at the counter.
It feels spacious inside with the high ceiling. The dining area is divided into two rooms, separated by an archway.
The Lord’s Café has looked the same for years. It’s boho chic with rattan lounge chairs and other vintage chairs painted a cheery apple green.
There are also sprawling indoor plants above the windows.
Since they are an upstairs lot, you can get street views from here (although the smoke from the road outside does get in).
Where Is The Lord’s Café?
The Lord’s Café faces the bus station in Tanah Rata. And it is along one of the oldest shophouse rows in the town.
If you’re coming from the bus station, you’ll need to cross the main road over to get here.
For those that drive here, the closest parking lot to the cafe is a bit further from the bus station on the same side of the road.
Alternatively, you can visit The Lord’s Café as part of a private day tour with Explore Camerons. We start these tours from Ipoh and don’t limit the number of places you can visit during the tour.

Things To Note
- As a breakfast spot, The Lord’s Café opens late at 10am. They will close at 5pm and on Sundays too and whenever they finish selling out all they’ve baked that day (this might be 3pm on Fridays and Saturdays)
- Place your order by writing down what you want on little slips of paper together with your table number.
- Bring the slip to the counter and wait for your table number to be called when your order is ready to collect.
- Expect a lot of people to be here after 10am. It gets very busy, and you will have to wait a while before you get your order.
- They do not allow customers to plug in their laptops and work here
- Don’t come here if you see long queues downstairs.
Conclusion
In our opinion, the food at The Lord’s Café is a lot better tasting than at BOH Sungai Palas Tea Plantation.
For the clean and cosy ambiance, it’s also a lot cheaper than anywhere we’ve been to in Cameron Highlands.
The closest is Royal Berry Strawberry Park & Café although they don’t have as much to offer on the menu (at least on weekdays).
