Boardwalk
There is a lovely wooden boardwalk that leads from the visitor car park, up through the tea plantation and up to the BOH Sungai Palas Tea Centre.
Note: If you have elderly with you, you should drive all the way up to the centre, drop them off, and go back down to park your car at the visitor car park so they can avoid climbing up the stairs to the visitor centre.
Scenery
Firstly, it’s hard to top the scenery here. Even the hillside drive into the plantation is stunning. The only thing that takes away from the whole experience is the traffic on weekends and public holidays.
But these days, the traffic in and out of the one-way road to the plantation is well managed.
Beautiful Visitor Center
Secondly, BOH Sungai Palas Tea Plantation has a large and modern visitor center. It’s a comfortable space for the whole family to sit down and relax.
There’s refreshments and a good view at either of the 2 cafes inside the visitor centre:
- J.A.’s Balcony
- Tristan’s Terrace
Between the two, Tristan’s Terrace is newer. But both cafes share the same common kitchen.
You can order cakes, pastries or scones (we don’t recommend them though) from the counter. As well as hot meals like spaghetti or curry mee. The nasi lemak is good.
Factory Tours
Factory tours of the tea processing plant behind the visitor centre are short, but free.
And while you can’t see the whole process of how the tea is produced and packaged, seeing part of it is still a good experience.
Entrance Fees
When so many other attractions in Cameron Highlands charge entry fees, it’s amazing that you don’t have to pay any fees to enter BOH Sungai Palas Tea Plantation.
You can stay here for as long as you want. Although the BOH Sungai Palas Tea Centre closes at 5pm.
Note: BOH Sungai Palas Tea Centre is closed on Mondays
Facilities
There are an adequate number of toilets to accommodate the large crowds of visitors that this place receives.
And if you’re driving here, you’ll find that the open-air car park is spacious too.
Moreover, there’s a BOH gift shop to explore with many different ranges of products to browse through.
Close to this is a small BOH ice cream stall and a couple of antique tea processing equipment on display.
There is also a small theatre (for the background history of BOH) and the waiting lounge for visitors that want to go for the factory tours.
